Subject: Pro Tour Qualifiers Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 13:32:27 EDT From: DuQeR To: fkusumot@ix.netcom.com I have a proposition to make to the entire Magic community and Wizards of the Coast included. If you talk to any 'smart' Magic: the Gathering player, they will tell you without a doubt that in order to be a stron gplayer, you have to be both skilled AND lucky. They will also note that many times, luck prevails over skill. I don't plan to start an argument over this, but I am getting to a point. Just bear with me on this one please. I think the Pro Tour Qualifier structure should be changed, as do many others. I am always hearing of people that go to the Pro Tour, that 1/3 to 1/2 of the field is of average skill level. there are many people that qualify that will tell you themselves that they are of average skill level and not really all that good. In addition to this, I have also been to many Pro Tour Qualifiers and have seen several players consistently make top 8, but never get an invitation to a PT. Here is what I am patitioning for: Pro Tour Qualifers in which the ENTIRE TOP 8 gets to qualify for the Pro Tour. Most PTQ's have tournouts as big as a Grand PRix anyway, yet you are only playing for 1-3 slots susually. Letting more people qualify will also allow the quality of paly in the PT to go up much higher. It would also get the attendance at the PT to go up considerably higher. This could do nothing, but help increase sales for WotC to begin with. Everyone that is in favor of this, please respond. Copy this and forward it to whomever you so choose. I think this is something that the Magic community should address. The next round of PTQ's is already scheduled, but let's try to get things changed for the next go round. This takes out more of the luck factor in PTQs and also increases your shot of qualifying. Also, tournament coordinators should be pleased with this because with more seats, you are almost always gauranteed a larger participation group. Let's hear what everyone has to say.
